Following a high level competitive hockey career that was cut short, Joel rededicated his focus and turned his attention to the game of golf and he quickly saw immediate success in tournament golf. Joel became the first in school history to win High School Championships, as individual and the team won their first and only Championship.
A few short years later, Joel suffered a potentially fatal accident, that also caused severe damage to his left hand and wrist. Doctors weren’t sure he would ever gain full function in his hand again, never mind play golf. Joel perservered through multiple surgeries and an extremely painful rehabiliation process, making it back in less than a year. Nine months and two weeks to the day of the accident, Joel won his first tournament back.
That final season as an amateur, in 2017 Joel won 2 events and a 2nd place finish in 5 events. He turned professional in the fall of 2017.
Since turning pro, Joel has earned multiple starts on PGA TOUR Canada, and is continuing his goal of play professional golf.

Quelques années plus tard, Joel a subi un accident potentiellement mortel, qui a également causé de graves dommages à sa main et à son poignet gauches. Les médecins n’étaient pas certains qu’il retrouverait un jour la fonction complète de sa main, et encore moins qu’il pourrait jouer au golf. Joel a survécu à de multiples interventions chirurgicales et à un processus de rééducation extrêmement douloureux, pour revenir en moins d’un an. Neuf mois et deux semaines après l’accident, Joel a remporté son premier tournoi.
Cette dernière saison en tant qu’amateur, en 2017, Joel a remporté 2 événements et une 2e place dans 5 événements. Il est devenu professionnel à l’automne 2017.
Depuis qu’il est devenu professionnel, Joel a obtenu plusieurs départs sur le PGA TOUR Canada, et poursuit son objectif de jouer au golf professionnel.
