Montreal QC – Two professional golf tours in Canada are excited to announce a strategic merger. The East Coast Pro Tour (ECPT), based in Montreal QC, and the Great Lakes Tour (GLT), based in Hamilton ON have agreed upon terms to merge schedules and events under one umbrella effective immediately.
This announcement comes with much excitement for competitive golf in Canada. The new tournament schedule will offer professional golfers and elite amateurs a full set of events across Ontario, Quebec and even the USA and feature one season long point list. Additionally, each event in 2023 will feature a minimum purse amount of $25,000 and an average first prize of $7,500.
The Merger will ultimately see all events on both tours in Ontario and Quebec fall under the brand and image of the ECPT. The GLT and ECPT will share resources and networks that will ultimately make the new ECPT an industry leader in the market of developmental golf in Canada.
Massimo Roch and Luca Greco will remain in Tour Director roles as President and Vice-President of the ECPT and will be based in Montreal, Quebec. Whereas, Jim Kenesky of the GLT will assume the role as a Tournament Director in Ontario strategically overseeing the operations in key markets of Ontario along with other duties being carried out to assist in tour and tournament operations. Colin Murray, also of the GLT, will be stepping away to focus on his professional senior golf career.

The Great Lakes Tour was established in 2001 and is the longest running professional developmental tour in Canada. Over twenty years of operation has produced tour alumni such as David Hearn, David Morland IV, Brad Fritsch, Matt McQuillan, Michael Gligic and Taylor Pendrith all advancing their careers to play at least one exempt season on the PGA TOUR.

In 2019, the ECPT was established and has continued to offer an upbeat and highly competitive tournament atmosphere for Canada’s elite golfers’ week after week. It has quickly become the must play developmental tour with events primarily in Quebec and eventually growing to conduct tournaments in Ontario and the United States. The membership-based tour sees players travel from all across Canada and the United States to compete.
”Over the past three years it was apparent that having one tour was the best option.’’ Continues Kenesky. ‘’The golf industry has seen great growth in recent years due to the ongoing pandemic, however tournament golf has been negatively impacted with higher travel costs, increased golf course fees, and inflation causing higher tour operation costs. The existence of multiple tours in the same market is just not viable for long term sustainability. We know where the GLT sits in the market, and this is the best time to merge where we can continue to grow the game of golf and see our young pros represent Canada on the World scene.”
The tentative 2023 ECPT schedule will be available in early January. It will feature six events in Ontario, five events in Quebec and one event in Connecticut. Players will gain points at events throughout the season toward the GolfIn Cup Standings where the leader at the end of the season will earn an all expense paid trip and entry fee into the DP World Tour Q-School. Max Gilbert of Saint-Georges, Quebec won the inaugural GolfIn Cup in 2021 and Ty Celone of Long Sault, Ontario is the reigning GolfIn Cup Champion.

Montréal QC – Deux circuits de golf professionnels au Canada sont heureux d’annoncer une fusion stratégique. Le East Coast Pro Tour ou Circuit Professionnel (ECPT), basé à Montréal (Québec), et le Great Lakes Tour (GLT), basé à Hamilton (Ontario), ont convenu de fusionner leurs calendriers et leurs événements sous un même toit dès maintenant.
Cette annonce a beaucoup d’importance pour le golf de compétition au Canada. Le nouveau calendrier des tournois offrira aux golfeurs professionnels et aux amateurs d’élite un ensemble d’événements en Ontario, au Québec et même aux États-Unis, ainsi qu’une seule liste de points pour toute la saison. En outre, chaque événement organisé en 2023 sera doté d’une bourse minimale de 25 000 dollars et d’un premier prix moyen de 7 500 dollars.
Grâce à la fusion, tous les événements des deux circuits en Ontario et au Québec seront placés sous la marque et l’image du ECPT. Le GLT et le ECPT partageront des ressources et des réseaux qui feront du nouveau ECPT un leader sur le marché du golf de compétition au Canada.
Massimo Roch et Luca Greco conserveront leur rôle de directeur de circuit en tant que président et vice-président du ECPT et seront basés à Montréal. Jim Kenesky, du GLT, assumera le rôle de directeur des tournois en Ontario, supervisant stratégiquement les opérations sur certains marchés clés de l’Ontario, ainsi que d’autres tâches liées aux opérations du circuit et des tournois. Colin Murray, également du GLT, se retirera pour se concentrer sur sa carrière professionnelle de golf senior.
Ce partenariat stratégique a été formé avec un seul objectif en tête : concevoir une plateforme nationale permettant aux Canadiens d’accéder au niveau supérieur du golf professionnel, déclare Massimo Roch. ”Nous avons tous deux convenu que l’unification des deux entités sous une seule bannière est la meilleure chose que nous pouvions faire pour les joueurs. Nous sommes convaincus que l’expérience antérieure de Jim et sa grande richesse de connaissances nous permettra de remodeler collectivement le golf professionnel dans le Nord et d’offrir à nos joueurs de meilleures opportunités de jeu.”
Le Great Lakes Tour a été créé en 2001 et est le plus ancien circuit de développement professionnel au Canada. Au cours de ses vingt années d’existence, le circuit a produit d’anciens joueurs tels que David Hearn, David Morland IV, Brad Fritsch, Matt McQuillan, Michael Gligic et Taylor Pendrith, qui ont tous progressé dans leur carrière pour jouer au moins une saison exempte sur le circuit de la PGA.

En 2019, le ECPT a été créé et a continué à offrir une atmosphère de tournoi optimiste et hautement compétitive pour les golfeurs d’élite semaine après semaine. Il est rapidement devenu un circuit de développement incontournable, avec des événements principalement au Québec, pour finalement se développer et organiser des tournois en Ontario et aux États-Unis. Les joueurs viennent de partout au Canada et aux États-Unis pour participer à ce circuit basé sur l’adhésion.
Au cours des trois dernières années, il était évident qu’un seul circuit était la meilleure option, poursuit Kenesky. L’industrie du golf a connu une grande croissance au cours des dernières années en raison de la pandémie en cours, mais le golf de tournoi a subi un impact négatif en raison de l’augmentation des frais de voyage, des frais de golf et de l’inflation qui a entraîné une hausse des coûts d’exploitation du circuit. L’existence de plusieurs circuits sur un même marché n’est tout simplement pas viable à long terme. Nous savons où se situe du GLT sur le marché, et c’est le meilleur moment pour fusionner afin de continuer à développer le golf et de voir nos jeunes pros représenter le Canada sur la scène internationale.
Le calendrier provisoire de du ECPT 2023 sera disponible début janvier. Il comprendra six événements en Ontario, cinq événements au Québec et un événement au Connecticut. Les joueurs accumuleront des points tout au long de la saison pour le classement de la Coupe GolfIn, où le meneur à la fin de la saison gagnera un voyage tous frais payés et une inscription au Q-School du DP World Tour. Max Gilbert de Saint-Georges, au Québec, a remporté en 2021 Coupe GolfIn et Ty Celone de Long Sault, en Ontario, est le champion en titre.
